About spaceport.io
spaceport.io was initially founded as Sibblingz Inc. by Peter Relan and Ben Savage under Relan's YouWeb incubator. YouWeb specializes in identifying and funding a small number of talented "entrepreneurs in residence" that receive intensive support in the form of daily, hands-on mentoring in startup fundamentals such as strategy, marketing, business development, financing, team-building, etc. spaceport.io is one of many YouWeb success stories: OpenFeint (since acquired by Gree) and Crowdstar have flourished after their time with YouWeb.
Ben Savage began his journey in Social Gaming in 2008 with the launch of "Make a Baby", a hit game on Facebook, Bebo, and MySpace that was installed by over 3 million avid players. A technologist at heart, Ben gravitated toward building cross-platform technology to bring the Social games then flourishing on Facebook to the new mobile platforms.
The Sibblingz team then created the Jetpack framework (An ActionScript and C++ based framework) which supported Flash animation on iOS and Android.
The Sibblingz team worked with Crowdstar to create both "Happy Island" and "It Girl" based on the Jetpack framework. These applications were brought to the mobile platforms as "Island Tycoon", "Top Girl" , and "Social Girl" all using the Jetpack framework.
Although Jetpack solved many problems inherent in cross-platform development, it was not a perfect solution. Unsatisfied with the need to develop and maintain multiple codebases, the extended time to market and higher costs due to the need to hire multiple teams, the Sibblingz team developed Spaceport.
Spaceport solves the problems of cross-platform development as elegantly as possible. With a single codebase and a 100% ActionScript workflow, Spaceport allows ActionScript developers to publish hardware-accelerated, native applications across iOS, Android, HTML5, and Flash without using the comparatively sluggish "Adobe Air".
